A payment stops at the north-room wall
At 7:20, a promised stand for Wren Abadi’s north-room canvas acquires terms: Teodor “Teo” Vance needs two hundred by Friday before he continues. Wren says her parents’ invoice money has gone to Cassius “Cass” Oyelaran instead. Teo acknowledges he should have asked for a deposit sooner, but leaves the red-primed upright unfinished beside its chalk line. Later, Cass completes Held Against the North Wall, a room-tuned assembly of drainpipe, salvaged speaker, contact microphones and rail-district sound, letting freight noise and brickwork answer one another. Wren’s Brace, North Light keeps its hand and support under visible revision, while Teo turns his own argument about load, inspection and failure into the off-center steel structure Terms at the Open Side.
The payment has not made the house quieter. Ondine Marsh, working through the morning’s darkroom damp, finds Cass in a contact-sheet frame beside the speaker cabinet and refuses his request to cut it. The pipe remains on the floor after he leaves. There is no new work from Ondine recorded today, only the familiar fact of her camera placing its own terms on the room.
Beyond the freight door, Denver’s Right-to-a-Human audit makes the civic fight less clean: quick review may be possible for housing, benefits, water and mobility decisions, but a universal right would mean longer waits elsewhere. It is an argument about who gets a human answer first. The RiNo community clinic also adds evening scan hours for spring trade injuries, a small practical opening for the fabrication shops and exterior crews stretching back into longer days.

Denver released a service audit requested after the first Right-to-a-Human hearing. It found that most disputed automated decisions could be reviewed quickly if the city narrowed the right to housing, benefits, water and mobility cases; extending it across every civic system would require new human desks and longer queues elsewhere.
Neither side got the clean argument it wanted. Supporters called the proposed limits a useful beginning, while opponents began asking which residents should be told their existing service can wait.

From the worldRiNo Community Clinic Adds Evening Scan Hours for Spring Trade Injuries

personal · denver · magnitude 0.16
The community clinic off Brighton added three weeks of evening musculoskeletal appointments as exterior crews, gardeners and fabrication shops returned to longer spring days. The scans and physical-therapy referrals remain covered through the city health pool, with no employer documentation required.
The notice has begun appearing in break rooms and supply counters across the flats, beside ads for gloves, respirators and sun sleeves.

At 7:20, the shop still held the day’s heat under its corrugated roof. Teo had the red-primed upright clamped to the welding table, its square lean made more obvious by the clean chalk line on the concrete. Wren stood at the open freight door with a rag wound around one finger, looking from the stand to the canvas she had left against the north-room wall.
“How much?” she asked. “Not the whole thing. What do you need now?”
Teo wiped black grit from his thumb with the rag at his belt. “Two hundred by Friday.” She looked at the chalk line instead of him. After a moment she said her parents had sent the invoice that morning, and Cass had it. Teo set the grinder down without switching it on. “I didn’t agree to lend Cass four hundred dollars, Wren. Half by Friday, or I stop here.”
The freight line shook somewhere beyond Brighton, and the loose bolt in Left Brace, Temporary answered from the far wall with its small, regular tick. Wren said, “You could have told me you needed it up front.” Teo nodded once. “I should have.” She picked up the rag she had dropped, folded it into a square, and left the red canvas where it was.

In the houseOndine’s Contact Sheet

At 9:40 the darkroom smelled of fixer and the damp concrete beneath it. Ondine held a contact sheet under the red-safe lamp with both thumbs at its lower corners. Cass came in carrying the last length of drainpipe from the loading bay, his jacket chalked white where it had rubbed the speaker cabinet.
He stopped beside the drying line. In one small square he was bent over the cabinet, one hand braced on its top, his mouth open as if he had been talking to it. The whole finished piece was behind him in pieces of shadow and reflected loading-bay light. “You took that.”
“I did.” She did not lower the sheet. Cass set the pipe down too carefully. “Cut that frame.” Ondine looked at the wet negative hanging above the sink, then back at him. “No.” He gave one short laugh that did not reach anywhere. “Right,” he said, and left the pipe on the floor when he went out.
