A shared freight spine takes shape as rain settles over the warehouse
Denver agrees to share oversight of a clinical-freight route with Cheyenne, Boise, Albuquerque, and Salt Lake, putting voting seats from the compact cities beside Denver’s own. The route is still an argument over costs and rules, but it now has rail yards and treatment centers to pass through. In the warehouse, Teo Vance makes a practical call for Nuri Alvear, offering their civic-visualization experience to a Pueblo freight contact while the rain works at the loading-bay glass.
The weather gives the flats a wet Sunday after their long bright spell. On Santa Fe, a restored 2030s mural returns to the street with its original brush joins left visible—an old hand allowed to remain legible rather than be smoothed into a responsive facade. The new arrivals continue finding their places in the building, without the house yet pretending that arrival is the same thing as belonging.
Teo’s Left Brace, Temporary answers the day in welded steel and salvage: a frame that shows its loads, including the one support he leaves mechanically fastened rather than fully resolved. Both works take seriously what a room can hold when someone has shifted out of it, or when the support is there but has not yet become permanent.

Denver accepted co-signing oversight for the proposed clinical-freight spine linking fabrication depots and rural treatment centers from Pueblo through Cheyenne, Boise, Albuquerque and Salt Lake. The system had been framed as a Denver project; its governing board will now reserve voting seats for the four compact cities.
The agreement does not settle who pays for expansion or whose rules govern the route. It does, however, make the argument physical: a shared network will run through Denver’s rail yards, carrying things people need before anyone agrees on who gets credit for delivering them.

A four-storey 2030s mural on Santa Fe Drive, long faded nearly to its undercoat, was uncovered and restored this weekend rather than replaced with a responsive facade. The restoration crew left the painter’s uneven brush joins visible along one blue sleeve, at the family’s request.
The sidewalk drew the usual Sunday photographers and children on scooters, then thinned. By late afternoon the wall was simply back in the weather, larger than any viewer could take in at once.

At 4:20, rain ticked steadily through the kitchen skylight and ran in dark threads down the freight-door glass. Wren stood at the counter with her sleeve pushed over one hand, trying to close the bank notice floating above the chipped tile. It had already expanded: TRANSFER RECEIVED — 600.00 — ABADI FAMILY ACCOUNT.
Ondine came in carrying a mug and stopped at the table. She did not look away quickly enough. Wren flattened her palm on the counter. “It’s Cass’s rent,” she said. “The invoice was for my parents.”
Ondine set the mug down without drinking. Wren opened the Registry folder on the kitchen wall and found the contact sheet of the red canvas, its dates bright beneath the thumbnails. “Put this with it,” she said. “Make it look like he hired me.” Ondine watched the rain collect at the dead spur outside. “I can keep your secret,” she said. “But I won’t make it true.” Wren shut the folder so hard the wall went blank.

At 4:20, rain ticked through the high loading-bay glass and ran in black threads down the inside of the freight door. Teo stood on a milk crate, tightening the loose conduit above the breaker box with a stubby driver. Nuri waited below with their monitors dark, one hand around the plug strip. On the nearest screen, caught before the outage, was a clean white building beside a road that did not exist.
“Your ramp’s wrong,” Teo said.
Nuri looked up at him. “It is intentionally wrong.”
“The turning radius isn’t.” He climbed down, wiped rain grit off his knuckles on his pants, and leaned closer. “You worked these?”
“Civic visualization. Contractor side.” Nuri put the plug strip on a crate. “Until they decided a subscription could do my job with fewer meetings.”
Teo took out his phone. Nuri heard him say Rusk’s name, then the words clinical freight and Pueblo. They stepped toward him. “Don’t send him anything.”
“I didn’t.” Teo watched the call connect. “I told him you can draw a depot that has trucks in it.”
When he hung up, Nuri was still standing there with both hands open at their sides. Teo reset the breaker. The monitors came on blue, then white. “He’ll call,” he said, and went back up to the conduit.
